Top Blogs

Being new to the blogging world I found myself looking at other blogs for inspiration. The one that I kept going back to that had the best descriptions and some of the prettiest pictures was Korrena's Blog. Another one that I found inspiration from was Josh's. He had great photographs as well as amazing descriptions of the things he was posting.

deCordova

Booker. This was my favorite of the tire creations by Booker. I was very impressed by the sheer size and magnitude of her pieces and the medium she chose to work with. I can not imagine working with old tires can be very easy.

Norfleet. The genreal consensus of the people I was walking around with was that the added flowers on the side of the cold war photos left something to be desired. Using recycled images from old shows and just basically slapping on flowers that have nothing to do with the original subject matter just doesn't seem to really go. There are rather distracting. I was more drawn to the original images than the more recently printed ones.

I did enjoy also the permeant collection. Of the artists I wrote down I had much difficulty finding their work online.

Abelard Morell - Metropolitan Opera: Romeo and Juliet
Was a beautiful picture of a stage for a play with almost a magic eye checked feel. You had to look at it for a couple of minutes just to figure out what it was.

Arno Rafael Minkkinen - Waiting for snake
A beautiful black and white print of a females back while the rest of her bod is submerged in water.

There were many others but those were some of the few that stood out.

The Death of Common Sense

I chose this topic because it had a hint of sarcasm to it as well as it was something that actually means a lot to me. Not that I know how to fix this issue or where to start. But it is getting ridiculous the things that we can not do as a society now for fear of being sued. I was reading a article about how towns are shutting down public parks/playgrounds because there was a chance or possibility of the fact that someone or child could get hurt. So now we live in a world where sleeping pills tell me they will make me tired, pecan salads contain nuts and you shouldn't use your snow blower on your roof. This is me poking fun at what has happened to the world. Oh yes last but not least don't use your hair dryer while sleeping.

Class Face?

The first picture is my first attempt at meshing and or melding the whole class of faces together. I was not happy with my result. I was just glad to have the eyes lined up. The second picture is a more worked on picture of the class melded together. I think I could work on this for hours and never be satisfied.

Shadow Class Work

HW # 8 Contact Sheets

HW # 8

For this home assignment I chose the create your own environment. Which included moving people around and your location and lighting ect... I have learned from this assignment that I am not very comfortable with staging my own "photo shoots" for lack of a better term. More than half the photos I chose during the editing process were not staged at all the but the in the moment ones or the happened upon sand dune as an example. I was very fortunate to have willing friends/models who let me take pictures of them and in bathing suits no less. So it was not lack of trying, I took many photographs of various stages of swimming and beach lounging. I have found though I prefer much more to be the silent observer rather then the director.

Lost in My Life 2

At the beginning of the class I had the opportunity to go listen to Rachel Perry Welty speak about her new exhibit of installation art "Lost in My Life".
Some of the things I took away from the talk were amazement of how art encompasses her whole life it seems. From the minute she wakes up to the piece of fruit with breakfast, or the way the flour falls on a fork that leaves an impression on the counter. Hence the title "Lost in My Life" I would imagine. It also left me questioning what is art? Can a million bread ties really be made into something? That answer is yes.
What I have found with conversations with classmates and other friends and family, is that you can not define art.

Youtube

http://www.youtube.com/user/6mAv - Channel

I appear to not be YouTube illiterate. With that being said above is the link to a video of my favorite artist Chad Perrone making his most recent CD "Release". The person that posted it is also in his band, "6mAv" (I could not figure out how to make the link work.)
Chad is from the Haverhill area which also makes him local and easily accessible. (If you watch I even went to the Drunken Choir which is now on the CD )

What I love the most about Chad's music is that when he sings he puts it all out there. You can tell he is not holding anything back. He writes his owns songs which are heartfelt and genuine. As much as there are a dime a dozen singer song writers Chad stands out to me as something more.
